wow.. I haven't been here in about a year 0.o
Freaky...

So, me-thinks I've got some explaining to do.. *sheepish grin*. I kind of..lost, my password, so that's the main reason I've not been here :P
That, and facebook..
Anyways. Some updates:
-I will be graduating high school in about a month
-I converted to Buddhism about 5 months ago
-I've learned more Spanish than I need (and now starting on Sinhalese [google it, bums]
-We adopted a dog. Her name is Sue and she likes long walks, treats, and chewing my bras
-I've become addicted to the following: Outsourced, Off the Map, Eddsworld (youtube), Enter the Haggis (wait, that's not new..), Tehan Perera
-I've decided to keep my hair curly :)
-Just celebrated my one-year anniversary with my amazing boyfriend, Madhawa Dias Weerasinha <3 (pls..for all our sakes..call him Mad :P)
-got a new phone :)
-Got my cousin and best friend together :)
-almost achieved valedictorian

Dear Blog-Diary-Thing,
I did it. Never thought I would...but I did.

Yup. I got a boyfriend.

Now before you start slapping me around nun-style, and shove the fiddle in my face, lemme explain: I still fiddle, the Claddagh is no prob. because...well.... I got rid of it :) hehe... Yeah, we put the thing on a chain, hung it around his neck, and bid adeui so he could have the stupid little thing till he gets off that hunk of political island in the Indian Ocean.

you are there, in Kandy, Sri Lanka........ I am here, in North Carolina.

we have a problem.
soooo, we're battling time zones, figuring a way to outsmart the recession, and I'm occasionally banging my head on things chanting "get your little brown, Buddhist, Sinhalese bottom over here!" ..........................the ocean sucks :P

I'm back! I'm actually not sure why I'm even blogging anymore, I think everyone who read it in the first place died loooooooooong ago..
Anyways, another St. Patricks Day has come and gone. School work piles up (just another step towards graduation). Family is driving me crazy. Cats need to go back to their home planet. The beautiful daffodils are coming into bloom :) Finished the MOST DEPRESSING BOOK-- left me in tears, worrying about the future...
So yeah. that's about all that's new with me :)

well look at that, one visitor from Sri Lanka. Wonder who that could be ;) ha ha, love you sweetheart!

Taekwondo Tournament vs. Fiddling

Hello all!
My oh my, it feels good to be blogging again! I wish I had more time for it during the school year....but ya know, junior year and all, work work work!
I'm sitting here, reclining in a comfortable rolling chair (one quite unlike the one in my cubicle at school-- yes, you heard me right: cubicle. Hey, tough school :) sipping a giant mug of Earl Grey, bopping my head to the sound of Gaelic Storm, all the while, delaying you from the explination of my title....

Yet....you're still entertained. :) At least...I think you are....

Anyway, about a month ago, I was told the Statesville Irish Sessions were going to play for the St. Joseph Irish Dancers at the town festival in Hiddnite, North Carolina. Yes, hiddnite, like the gem...in fact....exactly like the gem...the base of the vein, so to speak.
Of course I was excited, who wouldn't be? It's a pretty big thing.

About a week later, my Taekwondo teacher announced that we were invited to the South Carolina Governor's Tournament.

Decisions, decisions: competing in an really cool tournament, or getting rained on while I fiddle in the freezing cold?

Of course, I choose fiddling.
A friend of mine, who has been away at college, and I raerly get to see, spent the night. We watched Monty Python and Sweeny Todd. The next day we drove up to Hiddnite (well, she drove...I navigated the ipod...:) We were super early, so we sat down and watched little bluegrass veggietale dancers (don't ask...) who were on before us.
Then we found some of the other musisians, got to gether and tuned in the freezing rain. Five minutes later, tuned again, as well as a few more times after that. :(
Half an hour later, we got up in the gazebo-stage...thing.... and got settled in to our 1'by 1' box of personal space and played.

(you can see me and Hannah on the left hand side. I'm leaning on the pole (more like stuck to) and she's to my right.

On our five min. lunch break, I heard some pretty good street musicians playing The Swallow Tail Jig while I waited in like for my hot apple cider. (yum!)

On second rounds, we were shceduled to play under a tent, but apparently it's dangerous or something to dance on slippery, wet peices of wood.....so the dancers didn't show.
We were already wet (and my hair was already as curly as a Norwegian Fuzz-mop), so we were like, "oh what the heck?" and just started playing for the fun. :)

Hannah's face is just priceless! Haha! "WHAT THE HECK?!?!"

Why?

As I sit here typing this, one question runs through my mind:

Why?

Why am I writing? Why did I start this blog? Why did I name it "Fiddle Case or Mental Case?" ? What's the point?

--okay, that last one was a 'What' instead of a 'Why'...but still--

The answer- I have no clue.
So, I started reading some of the first posts and realized I first started blogging because I had no/ few friends.
But now I have friends.......so should I stop blogging?
Uh, NO. There are still some semi-interesting things going on in Statesville and in my life.
Like: music things, and....okay, I can't think of any off the top of my tounge...
on the bright side! I think I'm going to make a video of how to make soda bread!
You'll like that, won't you? Knew ya would. :)

Home Sweet Home.

Hi all,
I'm home again. What a crazy summer this has been, what with running all over the state and all. Unfortunately, I brought home a cold. On Tuesday, I began to have a sore throat, the next day I was hoarse, and on Thursday, I had completely lost my voice. Then it all went down from there. A few hours after I walked in the door, my parents shoved the digital thermometer into my mouth and it came out reading 100.4 degrees. Yuck.
But, fever is down today, and the snot is stalled for now. :)

Greetings From Oak Island North Carolina!

Hi all!!

I'm on Oak Island, North Carolina right now. :) Last week I was in Asheville (ah, sweet Asheville)
for Bele Chere --which was amazing, By the way. I'm here for Camp Caswell Baptist Camp. It's actually kind of weird, being in a Baptist camp, when I'm an Episcopal, but it's still alot of fun. :)
Being a vegitarian does not help though. In the South, almost everyone follows the sloggan: "There's a place for all Gods creatures-- right next to the potatos and gravy."

(ih.) :( There's a very nice cafeteria lady that remembers not to put meat of my plate tho. :)
She tipped me off that we're having vegitarian lasagna tonight :))) yay!
Well, gotta go! Our church is having a basketball game in a few. Then it's off to the ocean. :)

Minx's Helpful Hints: Anti-Inflammitories

Hello, how are you? Good I hope.

If you could see me right now, you might ask,

"Meg, why are you're arms covered in mustard?"

Well, I'll tell you. While putting some seasonings and sauces back into their rightful cabinet, the vanilla bottle fell out, and fell into an oil fryer...thing (we're fixing frys). Anyway, oil splashed onto my arms (ouch!!). My dad told me to put mustard on my arms.
And here's why:

Mustard contains a spice called turmeric. (Toom-rik). It's the stuff that makes in yellow, more commonly found in the cheap mustard- it also stains bowls, so watch out for that. Anyway, Tumeric is an anti-inflammatory. So your skin doesn't get all red and puffy.

You can find turmeric tablets in drugstores or some grocery stores. I always take one before I get my eyebrows waxed. (....you probably didn't need to know that...) It takes care of the redness.

Another anti-inflammatory is milk. Soymilk doesn't work. I've tried. Sorry. When you take Ibuprofen, wash it down with milk instead of water. It'll kick in faster.

What I do have to post that is...worth reading, is this:

Happy Canada Day! I'm not Canadian, but this year Dad and I went to the Second Fret to hear Rob play. The show was titled, "Songs in the Key of Eh". Ha ha!...*ahem*.

I've been baking Irish soda bread, it turned out pretty good. I gave some to my grandparents and some to my fiddle teacher, Veda. They both said it was good, so maybe I'm not such a terrible cook after all. :) yay.

Today, my highschool class is having a bake sale at the mall (yes, we can do that. our mall is that pathetic.). There will be fire works there as well later on today.
So, I've been baking since I woke up this morning. I'm bringing: oatmeal/raisin cookies, star-shaped sugar cookies, and scones.
Scones, scones,scones,scones, this is why my parents call me "Scone-Monger". LOL

Well, that's all I have to say. Have a wonderful Independence Day! And if you don't, just remember:

How to make a Vegetarian Meal When there's hardly Anything in the Fridge Part I

Hello All,

I have resurrected my vegetarianism (hmm, is that a word? must be, the Spell Check didn't go off). yay.

Okay, as you can guess from the title, there was hardly anything non-meat-related in the refrigerator yesterday. If you are a Vege' and ever caught in this situation, here's what I did:

Make an egg and toast sandwich.

First, fry your egg however you like it. I did mine like this : too imporportionate too be over-easy, too disasterous to be scrambled. So, we'll call this....a mess.

Then, toast some bread (wheat is sweet:) and stuff it with the egg. Now, to add a little flavour to this rubbery mess, I added salt....and mustard. Oh, don't "eeeewwwweee", it's good!

When you've got that done, fix yourself something to drink. As you can see, I made chocolate soy milk. I'm not vegan, I just have issues with the other kind.
Grab a napkin (cause this can get messy!) and enjoy! :)

I think I would want an aye-aye.
They are soooo cute! Well, to me...
The aye-aye is the largest nocturnal marsupial, and is from Madagascar (yes, like the movie), which is an island off the coast of South Africa.
It is believed to be a symbol of evil (tho I believe it to be a symbol of utter cuteness! ;) and if it points its middle finger at you, you'll die. *giggle* Ahem, sorry. The only way to destroy this "curse" is to kill the creature. *sob* Needless to say, aye-ayes are endangered species. :(

I've been practicing fiddle in the bathroom alot lately (it has amazing acoustics!).

Jalepenos and ADHD

I have too much fun...seriously....

"My name is Jose' Jalapeno.....ON a STICK!!!" Ha ha!!!

Anyway, it's been pouring buckets down here! I think the rain finally stopped an hour or so ago. Not much has happened.....we gave the cats a bath. I'm not really sure if I feel more sorry for the cats or the ones bathing them.
I bought some Lemon-poppy seed scones at Whole Foods and I've been trying to figure out how they get them so creamy ever since.
I've been listening to Great Big Sea (GBS) alot lately. They're really good, I put some of their songs on "Deadly Tunes". Scroll on down and give 'em a listen.
Also, school is out! I'm glad, but at the same time I'll miss all my friends. I have friends! This is so much better than my last school!
Okay, I'm gonna go have a soda to give myself ADHD so I can get the house clean in record time :)

Playing with the Best

Last night I went to the Second Fret (the local coffee house, music/dance hall, tavern...thing...) to hear Dr. John Turner.
Dr. Turner has won about 10 national Scottish Fiddle championships. OMG.
Anyway, I took a workshop from him this morning. It was awesome! I made scones as my "snack assignment", which were a success (phew!).
After it was over, Hannah and I got our fiddle/violin (my fiddle, her violin-- she sometimes gets mad if I call it a fiddle, Idk if she's reading this, but it's better to be safe) signed.
Yay!

Manny of my friends from school or elsewhere often ask me "What is the difference between a violin and a fiddle?"
The answer:

Sorry. Can't tell you. It's a secret known only to the players of these instruments, and we're not allowed to tell.

Kidding.

My real answers- -

(1) The nut that holds the bow.

Stop laughing, it's true. Fiddlers are usually more rythmatic (is that a word? you know what i mean.) with a bow. Really it depends on the style though e.i Cape Breton, Scottish, old time, etc.

(2) The violin sings, the fiddle dances.
Fiddle music when played for dancers is supposed to have a certain "bounce" or "kick" (use your imagination) to keep their feet entertained.

(3) No one cares if you spill beer on a fiddle.

When the-- Hey! Wait just one minute! I care! Especially if you spill it on the place where Brian Buchanan or Dr. Turner signed!
--you DEFINITLY don't want to if your fiddle is a Strad.--

Okay, now for the physical differences:

(4) London Bridge.....or Dresden...depending on your instrument....

On a violin, the bridge is ususally more arched so you don't bump extra strings. But in fiddling, the bridges are flat because you actually want to bump extra strings* (especially in Scottish music, so you get that lovely Bagpipe-Drone-Effect).
*Note- not all fiddles have a flat bridge. it's not that as soon as you install a different bridge, you're aura sudenly and magically changes from violinst to a fiddler or vise versa...but it does help.
ps.- if you didn't get the title, Dresden is a popular bridge manufacturer/maker of bridges/whatever. I couldn't come up with anything more catchy....sorry...

(5) Tomato/tohmahto

Both the words "violin" and "fiddle" come from the same Latin word-- ironically, I forgot the word. Eventually, if you translate it out......and keep going....and going....you will get the two differnt words.

So, the next time somone says "There is no difference between a violin and a fiddle.", please grit your teeth and kindly point them to here.

Hello! Happy Birthday to me and Alice! Check out Alice Whitlock's blog to veiw our cake! :)
(It's on the link to the left). My mom took me shopping for my special day, and we ate lunch at TGI Fridays. I went to Hot Topic (love that store! They have the coolest things --when it's on clearance, lol) and saw a Fred T-shirt I REALLY wanted, but my mom forbid me from getting it b/c some how she finds Fred annyoing and wants to strangle me every time I quote. How does anyone not like Fred?!?! 'S beyond me.
In case you're wondering why I'm up so late (it's 11:35pm 0.o) I'm watching a live Enter the Haggis concert on U-Stream (awesome-sauce!). Dedicated fan? Absolutly. Obsessed? ...maybe a little. LOL But really these guys are tottaly awesome! You must You-Tube them!

Okay guys, the coolest thing just happened!

Me and my friend Hannah are in Asheville, NC for the Enter the Haggis concert, and we're down by the pool practicing on our violin/fiddles. This lady comes up behind us and says we sound great! So, of course we say thank you.
Then she askes us if we want to play at this Poetry Juballee, which is --get this-- world wide!

OMG!

It was just a totally random thing! It wasn't just awesome-sauce....it was rocking-sauce!

Oh, I got my fiddle back, it is good as new...well almost. Johnny made a slight mistake on the finish but he's offered to take care of it after the concert.
I am desperately hoping Brian Buchanan will sign it! OMG

Okay, I have to drink some soy milk and go to bed. Not that the soy milk does anything to help me sleep, it's just that I had part of a cookie and I'm kind of thirsty and... you....really don't care.....

OMG :( ...

Yesterday, I was on the play ground at school and I cut my self on a nail that was sticking up.
Now I have to go get a tetnus shot. I don't know how to spell it, but it's that shot that you get so you don't get lock-jaw. That sounds scary.
I need my jaw to stay where it is! That's what holds up my fiddle! if I didn't play, I wouldn't care less if I got it. LOL

I hate shots. :(

Squishy, Squishy Squid....

I dissected a squid today. My friend Brittany and I and the middle school class went to the Catawba Science Center. The high school class went last month, but I was booked to play my fiddle at a funeral, and Britt was visiting family up in Ohio.
Any way, we dissected a squid!

This is exactly what it looked like, actually (the species, not the exact, mutilated squid...).
Everyone wore rubber gloves except me and Britt. We were digging around in it with our bare hands XD lol
We also got to ear Calamari (squid) and i got a tentacle stuck in my braces, but Brittany graciously stuck her hand in my mouth and got it out.

I was at the weekly Irish session last thursday, and there was this new guy there.
So I was like ok, no biggie, we have guest musisians all the time.
After the session the mother of two friends I play (instruments...not in the sand box) with is talking to him and she calls me over there and introduces me. Then she tells me he's the first bass player from Enter The Haggis, my favorite band in the world.

And yes...I start freaking out!

He's going to be at the same concert in Asheville (ah..Asheville <3) that I'm going to ! Maybe he'll introduce me to the band.... :)

Anyway, I've been playing my back up fiddle a lot lately, and it's sort of growing on me.
BTW- Jim is my favorite fiddle's name --yes, I name my fiddles. My other one is Toddie.

Don't look at me like that....

LOL

Anyway, I usually use Toddie for Old Time music (actually, I don't play old time as much as I used to....) and Jim for Celtic, since he-- I mean it -- has a more full sound.
Okay, I guess that's it...

Oh! SATs are Wednesday and Thursday. Can't wait because my Twin is coming to my school to take hers since she's homeschooled.

I have been at an A.C.E. student convention the past week where I was supposed to compete in violin/fiddle solo and duet (and I did, actually I won third place on both :))
While I was packing my case that morning -and my friends were cleaning the cabin (yes we slept in cabins...it was quite fun...) one of my friends knocked my fiddle off the bed. I tried to see what had happened, but they grabbed me and tried to keep me from seeing it.
Now, with me being someone who bites them self and others, that probably wasn't the wisest thing to do...but oh well. They were just trying to help. :) What good friends I have that would put themselves in the way of my dangerous teeth to help a friend. :)

Hang on- getting off subject.

Anyway, a piece off the top of my fiddle came completely off and I had to play like that while trying to balance the piece so it wouldn't fall off. And it worked, sorta...
I took it to a guy in Mount Airy that will repair it for me...but now I have to practice on my back up fiddle.
I hate that thing. It sounds like a broken record. I guess i should be thankfull that the whole thing isn't busted.

St. Patricks Day Concert 2009

oh, my God. The concert was amazing!!! We finally got put on the stage this year, since they extended it. There's nothing like having twenty dancers pounding on a wooden floor with their extra-muscular legs and stomp shoes. It felt like an earthquake.

The Galloway Ramblers (the kid ceilidh-or group if you will) played some featured pieces. I think we did pretty good. If I can get a hold of one, I'll try to post a pic up here of us. My "twin" Sarah, talked me into dying my bangs green. It was pretty cool, but the hairspray stunk like.....stinky stuff. LOL If you had to sit next to me, and your'e reading this....I'm very sorry.
My fiddle teacher and our fearless leader, brought Shamrock headband bobbers and big green hats. My friend Corey (who also plays fiddle) put two pairs of bobbers and a hat on me.
Me: "Now I look like a demented blond!- oh...wait..."

Sorry I haven't alot lately, St. Patrick's Day is almost here and Irish musicians are on demand. LOL

In other news in my life (wait! don't run!!:), my great-grandmother passed away last week.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1924 and died Monday before last. 84 years, impressive. Mary Lois "Mother" Rennegar retired from Harmony Elementary after 17 1/2 years of service in the cafeteria. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and just like a teenage girl, talking on the phone. :)

Like many funerals in our family, it ends as a family reunion, with coffee, donuts, and monkey bread...wait- what?!
I hate monkeys.

Oddly, she passed while baking a pie. An apple pie. A really EVIL apple pie.

My family was joking around, saying Daddy Ramond (my great grandfather) had a 13 year long peaceful nap, now it's time to wake up. Ha ha!
I don't think I'm really that sad, I'm happy for her that she's in Heavan with him.

I was in Taekwondo class yesterday and we were sparring (my first time). Okay, so I'm the first one up and I have to go against my teacher ,who is 3 times my size! So we throw some kicks....I don't have the slightest clue what I'm doing.

I tried to round-house kick him in the side, but he turned and I kicked him in the butt!

Ooooh boy................. 8/ :o

And he turns around, and just gives me this look....like...

"What.....did you just do?"
I can tell you I almost died on the spot....but I can't remember if it was from embarresment or if I was just laughing to hard.

I hope you all are having a white Christmas....'cause I'm sure not. :( It's 65 degrees outside and not a trace of snow! Oh, well.

I've gotten a lot of things with skulls on it ( a bath robe, tea-mug, leggins). My parents know me so well!!! As well as the movie "Leather Heads" (one of my fave.s!). Actually, part of that movie was filmed right across the street where the band I'm in practices! (I play back up for the back up fiddle. LOL)

I got Mom a Natalie MacMaster CD and Dad the Monty Python's Flying Circus collection - which he loved! yea!

I tested for my yellow belt last Wednesday! I think I did pretty good.

OMG, before we started testing, my teacher comes over to me and gives me a weird look. Then at the end of the test he comes over to me and tells me I have my pants on backwards!! 8(
I was so embarased! The only difference b/t front and back is you have an itsy-bitsy black Korean logo on the front.
But.....as long as I get the belt. :)

Apart from being in a turkey coma, this friday is going pretty good. I keep looking around the house for familiar things, because I keep thinking I must be in the wrong house, since mine has never been this clean! I wonder how long it will last.... I'm listening to Enter the Haggis's Soapbox Heroes album in their multi-media center; you can check it out here:

ETH is so awesome! They don't play just one kind of music, it's a mix of fusion, bluegrass, celtic, rock, and pretty much anything you can think of! A lot of the songs are tradtional Irish (Star of the County Down; The Minstril Boy; etc.) and Scottish (Martha Stewart --no, not the lady who was put in jail). However, there are a good bit of political and society based songs, or something like that.
Hang on- I got on here to talk about Friday, not ETH, but then, how could I resist? lol
Last nights dinner was pretty good. A lot of it consisted of my grandmother and her mother-in-law rolling eyes at each other.... but I won't go in to that. After eating, we shared stories about chicken-houses and liquor stills-- no, I'm not an alchoholic, just so you know. lol

My mother refused to let me play our Greatest Hits of Queen throughout dinner. *Pout*

"Ainge" Belt

Well, Taekwondo (a Koren martial art) class was today. A good many
people recieved their orange-- or as we girls sometimes joke with our cute
little southern accents "Ainge"-- belt today. I'm still a white belt b/c this is

Happy Halloween everyone! I hope you have a better day than I will. Unfortunatly, I can't go trick or treating this year b/c a cheerleading thing came up. I know, I know cheer season is over, but it's like an end-of-year thing.
So last night I got dressed up in a cheer' suit from my old school and drew on some stitches and rung my own door bell. Little need I say, my parents answered the door and my dad gave me that "Go' , you're dumb..." look.

Guess what I discovered last night:

I was making cookies (chocolate chip of course). When I had to use the electric beater, I was using a wooden spoon to scrape the sides of the bowl.
The spoon got caught up in the beaters and then took up my hand with it! At level 2, I jammed the beater till it stopped completly with my first two fingers.

I'm in Asheville, NC right now! woo hoo! Me and the parents came all the way up here for a football game I had to cheer at, then we decided to spend the night. I'm writing from a hotel --they have internet! Yes!
We won the JV (junior varsity) game, but lost varsity. It was freezing cold! On our breaks the cheerleaders were all hudled up like little scared kittens! lol. I dyed my pony tail purple, you probably will be proud to know. :)

GRR! Our home field for football got flooded b/c of all this (gritted teeth) Glorious.....Glorious...rain!!!! Feels like I live it Gloomsville right now!!

Well, the football players won their first game!!! Both JV and Varsity! It was an away game, BTW.

S'kelly

Oky-Dokey, Here's the Charater Review for S'kelly (Skelly).

About the name thing: S'kelly is actually a combination of the character's first and last names: Susan + Kelly= S'kelly

The name suits her better, anyway, seeing though how she actually is.....a skeleton. That's right, a walking, talking, grave-excaping skeleton of a girl- with a few exeptions of rather all bones, she actually has hair and eyes. No one knows how it happened....but, I don't think they're complaining. lolz.

S'kelly died in a house fire (to get the full details, you'll have to either read the book or do a good bit of sucking up). However, while she has grown to accept her appearance (being a skeleton I mean), she's still a good deal uncomfortable when the subject rolls around to her "sudden departure".

There are more than a few hints in the book/series/episodes (episodes! could my genious work really become a Tv show!?!?!? :o :D XD) that S'kelly does, in fact, have a crush on Ghoul, however, there is no real indication that the zombie knows this.

S'kelly works hard to make sure her friends know her mood and emotions since facial expression is somewhat limeted.

First day of school!

School started today. (half heatedly) Yay...... School actually isn't that bad, though I may have made an enemy with one of the primary-school teachers.....
There are certainly alot more highschoolers this year. 97 students in total (for the whole school, not HS. LOL)! I see some familiar faces, though. Some students that were in my Mom's Kindergarten class.

It's raining right now. Yay!!! I love the rain. Although it's certainly not helping the fact that the class room feels like the Artic Circle already! Brr!....

Lunch was pretty fun. Me and a friend swatted an uneaten fruit cup back and forth, somehow we found that ......amusing....(?) lolz

Hi there! Graveyard Gang is a story/possible comic that I'm writing, so I thought I could make a little character review.

Marian Josephs was never a girl who made friends easily, but when she moved to small town Glendale, things got worse. Marian meets her new (and first) best friend the mysterious skeleton-girl, Susan Kelly, on a classic dark and foggy night. Marian's friends also include Mary Hale --a haint--, Boone Montgumery (nicknamed "Boo")--a poltergeist-in-training-- and Gualterio Giordano (who was given a much more easier to pronounce name ,'Ghoul') --an Italian zombie.

A few minuites ago, I was heating up some water for tea in the microwave, and I forgot that you're soposed to heat the water for 45 seconds and let the tea steep for 3 minutes!

Embarassing

Well, this is really embarrassing, but you might think it's funny:
A few days ago, I was at Mae's house and we were "sword fighting" (using really big sticks and homemade wooden shields). I was fighting her brother and I got hit in the head with his shield. Well, it made a small gash in my skin (nothing too serious) so, naturally we went inside and put some anti-biotics and a band aide on it and went back outside.
The next day, we went on a trip to Emerald Point (Wet 'n' Wild), and I got sunburt on my face. Yes, I still had the band aide on. Now I have a reverse-band aid tattoo on my forehead. :@

The Real "Minx Deadly"

When I first made up the pen name "Minx Deadly", I sort of didn't need it for a while, so I put it in a disregarded file in the back of my mind. (Scary place, that file! :)
Anyway, a few months later, I was writing a story about a girl with horribly bad luck: She was born a mix, (Half human and half Elvin), her mother was killed and her father was banished from the Realm, she grew up, avoided being killed many times, fell in love, got married and had a child.
That's not the bad luck part though, her daughter was stolen and taken across the Forbidden River (where people of that Realm couldn't cross or they would burst into flame -- so, yeah, that had to suck) and then her husband was killed during a war a whole year later -- but she didn't actually see him die, hmm...--.
So, yeah, I had to give her a name so.....Minx Deadly! XD

Drivers Ed.

Well, today I started my first drivers session of D.E. I was pretty nervous this morning, what with all the pacing, and waking up @ 5:30 am (OMG!!) , writing sentences saying "I am not a crazy person." and "I am not a nervous wreck.
I was pretty nervous at first, but I did better than I thought I would --much better.

oh, and if you're one of my friends reading this, no, I didn't kill anybody. You should be very proud, but like I said, it's the first day.

My instructor had me to stop at a BP station so he could get some coffee. When he got back in the car, he set his drink down and said, "Now, if you spill any of my coffee, you fail."
It was at that moment that the little voice in the back of my head said to me: ''That coffee looks pretty hot, you better be careful. Remember the Jo-Anne incident?"
I replied, "Oh, yes. I remember that day."
Everybody looked at me like I was crazy.

Perhaps I should explain the Jo-Anne incident.

At my old school, we always had a Valentines Day/Talent Show dinner. Our school's FFA chapter always sponsored it, AKA worked, set up, cooked, served, entertained, and cleaned.
It wasn't that bad, except when people wanted coffee. We had a very, very, VERY slow coffee maker. There were students standing around, tapping their feet, sighing exasperatingly, and- well, whatever people do when they're bored or impatient.
Anyway, when I finally got my ordered 3 cups of boiling hot coffee, I was about to open the kitchen door, when suddenly it swings wildly towards me, and the drinks spilled on my clean, white, OD (official dress), shirt! Did I mention the coffee was very hot??
So, yeah. The coffee burnt me, it was Jo-Anne's fault, yada, ya.

Right, back to drivers ed....
Like I said, I was pretty nervous this morning, until I took myself aside and had a little I'm-going-to-have-a-one sided-conversation-with-myself-but-I-swear-I'm-not-crazy, chat.
I said: "You're pretty nervous right?" I nodded. "And you're not really sure you want a licence or a car, huh?" I nodded again. "You like Jaquelynn's car, right?" (Jaquelynn is one of my story characters)

I replied: "I gave her my dream car."

I said: "That's right! Now wouldn't you want to drive her car if you ever got the chance?"

I smile: "Oh defiantly!!"

I say smuggly: "Too bad. If you never get over this fear, you'll never get to driver your dream car." I start to sulk. "Will you get over your fear?" I nod vigorously. "Good."

Call me crazy, but it worked! :)

The Summer Crazies

I think I've got the summer-time crazies: I actually want to go back to school.
My new school really isn't a drag at all, it's just....different. It's not what I'm used to, I admit, but I'm adapting.
The really bad thing though, is that since my old school closed down, everyone is going to be so spread out this coming school year. Now, I'm not saying that I'm going to miss everyone (because very few people that went there were actually worthy of being called a true friend --not saying everyone was unworthy, keep in mind--), but then, I kind of am saying that I'm going to miss everyone because they were so familiar to me. Most of the students there had been at that school as long as I have --since K-4.
But it is a sad thing when there isn't really a decent school in the district (well other than the school I'm at right now, but space is very limited for high schoolers at the moment) and so many students are being sent off to public schools.
Now, public school may not sound like the worse thing in the world, but keep in mind that these are kids --I mean little, 11 and younger kids-- have been in a Christian school all of their life. I'm sure that's got to be a rather un-nerving experience.

But, anyway, Yes, I'm a freak for wanting to go back to school, yada yada, I'm insane, blah blah blah.

Wow. I've been gone a while. I went with Mae (my best friend --the one I went to camp with) to Wet 'n' Wild for a 4-H trip. I got really, really sun burned. As well as drinking lots of water this summer, wear lots of sunscreen too, trust me. A few days ago I couldn't lift my arms above my head with out screaming.
Apart from that, not much has been going on. My mom and dad and I went to a nearby town to have lunch in the park and listen to the bagpipers practice. I love the bagpipes. I keep a chanter in my room and practice with it some times. Of course, to me it's alot harder than actually playing the real 'pipes (sort for bagpipes) because I run out of breath so easily -- I'm more of a strings musistian. But, someday you'll see me up on stage on the PBS channel. Yeeeaaaaahhhh.....probably not. LOL!!!

I saw a fill-out-thing on another blog that I read, I thought it would be really cool if I did one too, so here goes:

While I Was Gone.....

Wow, it's been a while! I've been away at Quest Camp the past week with a friend --actually, best friend. I have many a funny story to tell you. To be honest, I'm not all that sure who you is, or if anybody is actually reading this and I'm waisting my time when I could be..........washing dishes? Ih, no I think I'll stick with this.

Okay, first funny story. oh, some things you need to know first:
(1) Sponge war is kind of like dodge ball, only with water sponges. There is a big (and when I say big, I mean BIG) feild that you play in. Down the middle of the feild is a rope that marks off the two teams boundry. There is a big tub full of water that you dip the sponges in, overlapping the rope so that both teams can get to it.

(2) To play medic: if you get hit with a sponge, you're dead. (Happy thing, huh? :) But, you can be revived if your teams medic pours a bucket of water on you.

Right, so, we were playing sponge wars (medic version, of course) and I was doing pretty good at it. Better than most of the guys, in fact (yes, I LOVE to brag LOL!) . So I make my way to the water tub to get my sponges wet, when.......I get hit. :( Okay, so there's alot of people dipping in their sponges and the pulling them out really fast, so there's a bunch of standing water on the ground, and it's pretty dang muddy. So the rules are, where you get hit, you have to sit (excuse the little rhyme, I didn't mean for that to happen, but it's pretty cool though...). So, I sit in the mud.
Ten mins. have past. The medic has not gotten me back it the game. I am coverd in mud, and steaming mad. To top it all off, there's a huge storm rolling in. Now, it wouldn't be that bad, but It was coming from both sides of the lake --did I mention we were on a lake? I'll get to that next story. I go to our recreation-counsiler who was hosing people off to wait for my turn. Finally my turn came (last of course).
So, now: I'm soaked to the bone, the storm is almost here, I'm freezing, and I made the mistake of wearing a white T-shirt and getting very, very wet. I shall not explain that one any further. Okay, so I don't want to drip water all over the floor of the room, so I get my clothes and go change in the shower.
Once I had my shirt off, and I discovered that the draw-string of my shorts are in a knot, a bunch of girls come in there shouting that there's a tornado watch.

Marvelous.
I broke the draw-string, got dried off and clothes on in probably record breaking time, fueled by panic, ran to the Sanctuary with everyone else. We watched Jonah, a Veggie Tales Movie. I love Veggie Tales. :)

Second Funny story:

Okay, I was on the waterfront one day, when I discovered that I had a hidden talent: Kayaking.
So, I'm out on the water, paddling around, when this guy's kayak capsises. I paddle over there and see that he's not wearing an orange wristband (an orange wristband means that you passed the swimming test) and so I start freaking out. I yell at him to grab onto my boat; he looks at me funny and then stands up. It is then I notice that the water is only knee deep.
So yeah. That's about my week.

This is very cool: I got my own computer!!!!! :) Okay, sure right now I have to
sit with it in a little corner in the dining room. On the floor. With the mousepad on a phone book. Like a redneck...but anyway, it's awesome! I plan to put it on the desk in
my room sometime next week if everything goes well.
Oh my goodness, I have SO much going on this summer! Driver's ed, summer school
(I'm not dumb, I just got a little behind in algebra when I changed schools this year), cheerleading camp and finally camp! A real, canoe and campfire, sleeping-in-cabins,
gallons-of-bugrepelent, the first non-sports camp I have ever been to! I can't wait. The
only camps I have ever been to were: soccar, basketball, vollyball and cheerleading.

It's been a while...

Okay, before I start: Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been pretty busy lately. A bunch of exciting things have happened since though.

First of all, remember that bruise I had?? It went away the very next day! I know, that may no seem like cool news to you...but, I'm like, the boo-boo princess. :) So that was pretty cool.

Second (and least fun), I almost passed out from dehydration. People, when adults tell you to drink lots off water, DO IT!!!! Actually, that happened to me about this time last year. Like this time, I was in the chicken house, and I kept telling myself that I would go to the house and lie down after I finished the flat of eggs that I was working on, but that flat kept leading to another one and just one more- until I eventually blacked out. Hee-hee, I is stubborn.

Third, Mom got a job as a pharmacy technician's assistant! Yay Mom! Hip-hip-horray!

Fourth: oh boy. The mules got out of the stable. Twice. *sigh I love Sam and Julie to death, but sometimes they get so irritable I just wanna smack their hindquarters! I tried to lead Julie, but then I realized: Julie is a follower, not a leader. So, I took the lead rope off of her, and put it on Sam. Now, Sam is as big as a Clydesdale (oddly enough his mother was a quarter horse 0_o) but he's as sweet as a rotten apple -which I have learned in the past, if you feed an equine too much of, they'll get drunk :o - . I lead Sam, he followed me and Julie followed him. Then, they got out AGAIN! And I followed the same procedure.

Then, we picked cherries, pitted cherries, bagged cherries, freezed cherries and made cherry pie. I want nothing to do with cherries for the rest of the year. >(

Oh, and I watched Million Dollar Baby. I was really good.

Stupidity = Injury

Have you ever done something SO stupid and ended up paying for it? I'm sure we all have. A few days ago, I was playing basketball with my dad, when I decided to do a few cartwheels.
Now at my house, we have this hill that's really good for sledding down when it snows (which, in the South, is not very often *sob*) and riding a bike down at high speed. So I thought, Hey! What if it's good to turn multi-cartwheels too?

Now, before we go any further, it needs to be said that earlier in the day, my mom had found a baby snake it our garden. At first I thought it was a Garter snake and had yet to convince my mom to set it back out. I was wrong. It was actually a baby copperhead. So when my dad got home from work, they found out what it was and killed it. I didn't actually see them kill it, or know where they put it, I was probably in my room listening to Metallica or battling with the radio antenna.

Okay, back to my stupidity. I tried a few cartwheels at first, but didn't go very far. For the grand finally, I went about six feet down the road before I slipped, skinned my elbow, and bruised the side of my foot.
Can you guess what I slipped it? Yes, it was the baby copperhead.

Ick!!!!!!!!

Minx Deadly

"Minx Deadly?" you say. "I've never heard of anything like before. What is it?"
Well, to put it simply, Minx Deadly isn't a what so much as a who. It is simply my pen name --well, type name, in this case I guess--. It's just some random (pretty good for random if I do say so myself :) ) name I came up with so my......associate-enemies don't find me. My real name is Meg though, but you can call me Minx or Meg, whichever you prefer.

Minx is actually a term for a --and I quote from the dictionary :)-- a saucy girl.

And Deadly means- well, if you don't already know what 'deadly' means, you should probably be doing something a little more constructive in the educational department than reading this blog. No offense of course.

Well that's all for now I guess, I would love to tell you a bit more about me, but I'm an enigma: I like to drop hints about myself as I go along, so if you are interested in finding more about me, keep reading!!! :)
